This Week In OEP Class

Class Topics:
  • This week we discussed how easy it is to file away receipts for the tax season.
  • Think outside the box.  Open the mind for new possibilities.
  • Be prepared to research a company before going on an interview, or if the boss/supervisor plans to do business with that company.
  • Be efficient in the office.  If you have all your assignments done, ask if anyone else needs some help on their assignments/projects.
New Things I Learned:
  • Learned that it is a good idea to make copies of receipts for new equipment bought for the office.  Thermal images, after a period of time, will disappear.  Attach the original with the copy.
  • Grow as the company grows.  Always strive to keep your skills up to date in the office.  Read articles that pertains to office skills, watch tutorial videos, and learn a new software program.
  • Very important to learn the time zones if your office deals with individuals from other parts of the world.  The reason is, you do not want to be making a phone call from your office a 9:00 am, but the receiving office is not open for another 2 hours.  Be familiar, if not, then study up on them.
  • Learn what types of situations calls for different kinds of office equipment.  Meaning, what do you need in the office, if your office deals in binding up many reports?  Your office would need a binding machine to handle the load of many bound reports.
Time Management Tip of the Week:
For one week, make a goal of not taking any personal phone calls while in the office.  At the end of the day, write down what was accomplished in the time that you normally would make/receive a call from a loved one, children, and so forth.  Normally, business' do not allow personal phone calls.

Office Management Tip of the Week:
Management by walking around (WBWA) does work.  By walking around the office, you become more approachable.  You will be able to find out what is going on in the office and if there are any problems, then they can be handled right then.  It will also clear your head and help you focus more when you do return back to your office.
